CIBSE Guide L: Sustainability forms part of a 'Sustainability Toolkit', which consists of three elements:

1. Guide L: Sustainability

The full Guide sets out some fundamental principles which, when followed, will deliver more sustainable buildings.

It emphasises the importance of influencing the brief and adopting a strategic approach, looking at opportunities that are open at the early design stages of a project and includes summaries and case studies of sustainable techniques and technologies

It contains a number of key actions which relate to design, construction, commissioning, building handover and operation, helping building services engineers across the sector.

2. The Introduction to Sustainability

This publication covers the origins and meaning of sustainability and the drivers to contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

3. Online Sustainability Engineering Tool

Allows users to generate a shortlist of good practice measures related to a specific sustainability issue and pick the ones which are suitable for their particular building, along with references to relevant guidance documents, not just from CIBSE, but from BSRIA, BRE and CIRIA among others.

CIBSE Guide L: Sustainability will be invaluable in helping engineers to improve the environmental performance of buildings. It will also be beneficial to any professional in the construction industry, as sustainability is the concern of everyone who is involved in the design, construction, operation and eventually, the demolition of buildings.
