This publication provides guidance for the design and installation of turbine meter systems in road and rail loading gantries handling white oil products.
The majority of gantries in the UK are equipped with positive displacement (PD) meters. However, turbine meters offer the advantage of lower purchase price, which has led to an increasing trend towards their use in loading gantries. The installation requirements for turbine meters are significantly more demanding than those for PD meters if they are to achieve the standards of accuracy and performance demanded by the oil industry for loading gantry metering. For this reason, a turbine meter should not be regarded as a direct, 'bolt-in' replacement for a PD
meter.
