Model code of safe practice Part 17 remains an extensive reference and guide for both operators and contractors who are involved in the planning and managing of drilling and testing "high pressure high temperature wells" (HPHT) in an offshore environment. In addition to providing good industry practice guidance for all principal activities relating to HPHT well construction, the 2nd edition has been enhanced by capturing recent operational experience. It also aims to further assist the process of identification and assessment of risk and risk mitigation that may be required, thereby helping to demonstrate that the ALARP (as low as reasonably practical) principle has been achieved.

In revising the original edition published in 1992, the content covered by Model code of safe practice Part 17 has been expanded significantly. Volume 1 covers the planning aspects of high pressure high temperature wells and Volume 3 focuses on completions and interventions.
