Provides guidance on the design and implementation of safety-related systems. It can be applied to control and safety systems in gas storage and process industries, including transmission, distribution and storage and industrial, commercial and domestic gas installations.
Recommendations address tolerable risk, safety-integrity criteria, random and systematic failures, life cycle activities, functional safety capability, assessments, ALARP, SILs, implementation and applications. They serve as industry-specific guidance to supplement BS EN 61508 and are largely aimed at designers and safety assessors although some aspects of operation and maintenance are included.
