There are many aspects to consider when storing petroleum products at petrol filling stations. Due to the close interaction with the public, it is important that the necessary controls are in place so that products such as petrol or diesel are stored, transferred and handled appropriately.

Key technical and engineering issues concerning the design, construction, modification and maintenance of petrol filling stations, and associated equipment are covered by the EI’s Service Station Panel (SSP).

The key areas of technical work/responsibility are:

Additional to the major oil companies, the SSP also benefits from representation from AUKOI, FEF, PEIMF, RMIF, UKPIA, who represent a specific subsector of the industry.

The SSP is responsible for overseeing the development of Design, construction, maintenance and decommissioning of filling stations (also known as the Blue Book).  For a full list of titles produced through the SSP, click here

The EI also offers training based on guidance for filling stations developed by the Panel.
