Scope
This standard specifies a method for the determination of the phosphorus content of residual fuel oils by ashing, fusion and reaction to form molybdenum blue, the intensity of which is measured by ultra-violet spectrometry. It is applicable to phosphorus contents in the range 0,2 mg/kg to 40 mg/kg, and in combination with other analyses, may give an indication of the presence of ash-containing lubricating oil in the fuel.
