This Standard specifies a method for the determination of the existent gum content of aviation turbine fuel. It includes procedures for using
either air or steam as the vaporizing medium.
NOTE 1 - The determination of the gum content of aviation gasoline, motor gasoline and other volatile distillates may be determined using the procedure described in IP 131.
NOTE 2 - Large quantities of gum are indicative of contamination of fuel by higher boiling oils or particulate matter and generally reflect poor handling practices in distribution downstream of the refinery
