Performance standards (PSs) are defined to provide evidence that risk levels for offshore structures in use by the Oil and Gas Industry remain acceptable. That is, the continuing availability of Structural Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs) such that damage, deterioration, changes, and modifications, over the life of the installation will not compromise structural integrity to a level whereby the risk is beyond the defined PS limits.

Every SECE requires a PS which can be defined and should be measured. The purpose of the guidance is to capture industry good practice, knowledge and learning on the key requirements necessary to develop appropriate PSs.
