The art of fire engineering has evolved and changed. Computers are much more powerful, allowing greater use of analytical techniques such as computational fluid dynamics and there are now a vast number of websites relating to fire engineering, which means much faster and wider dissemination of ideas.

This is a fully updated version of the first edition, published in 1997. It has two completely new sections dealing with firefighting (section 9) and fire safety management (section 12).
