Scope
The presence of water and/or sediment in a crude petroleum measurement system
will lead to uncertainty in the value of an observed crude petroleum density.
This method specifies techniques for sample handling, sub-sampling, and the
determination of density using a glass hydrometer, and the measurement of water
and sediment contents of crude petroleum sub-sample.
The data obtained,
together with the water and sediment contents of the whole oil enable the dry
and wet oil densities to be calculated.
NOTE 1 If the sediment content of the oil is below 0.01 % then for routine calculations this term may be ignored.
