Scope

This standard describes a method of determining key aldehydes and ketones (carbonyls) as listed in Table 1 in dilute motor exhaust collected on cartridges or impingers.

Table 1
Carbonyl ug/ml
Formaldehyde 0,009 - 5,247
Acetaldyde 0,009 - 5,489
Acrolein 0,018 - 4,455
Acetone 0,009 - 5,324
Propionaldehyde0,009 - 5,291
Butyraldehyde 0,018 - 5,500
Benzaldehyde 0,018 - 5,478
Methyl ethyl ketone 0,018 - 5,467
Methacrolein 0,009 - 4,961
Haxanaldehyde 0,018 - 5,786
Crotonaldehyde 0,018 - 5,511
Valeraldehyde 0,009 - 5,698
Haxanaldehyde 0,009 - 5,247

NOTE 1 Impingers or serial multi-cartridge arrangements are used when the expected levels of carbonyls exceed the upper limit as advised by the cartridge.
