This publication was produced by the Energy Institute’s Health Technical Committee (HTC) and will be of primary interest to occupational physicians and other related professionals working in the international oil and gas industry.

Respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is used on a regular basis in numerous areas of the offshore and onshore energy industries. This technical publication addresses the medical standards for fitness to wear RPE where it is required as part of normal duties. Those using RPE in their role as fire fighters should consult the recommended guidelines assessing the physical capability and functional capacity requirements for emergency response teams (ERT).

Further information regarding these requirements can be found in EI Guidelines for the medical and physical fitness requirements of emergency response team members, 2nd edition.
