The Energy Institute's Occupational, Environmental Medical Subcommittee commissioned a workshop to explore Health as a Business Management Issue in the 21st Century. The aim of the workshop was to bring together a range of different views on occupational health provision within industry, and how it should develop in years to come. Speakers were from the UK, USA and mainland Europe, and represented academia, industry and regulatory bodies. This publication is a record of the presentations given, and the discussion which followed. The following presentations are reproduced in this document:
- An occupational health view on health in business, Dr M Roberts, Corporate Medical Director, BP
- Management view of health interventions in the workplace, Tom Knudson, Head Global HR, Conoco
- Workforce view of health interventions in the workplace, Chris Ball, National Secretary (Working Environment) Amicus
- Environment and health, Professor J Ashton, CBE, University of Liverpool
- The Government perspective of occupational health provision, Anna Bliss, Health and Safety Executive
- The European perspective of occupational health provision, Jean-Philippe Gennart, Industrial Hygiene and Product Stewardship Coordinator, TotalFinaElf
- The economics of occupational health provision, Paul Miller, Lecturer, Nottingham University
An interesting and informative read for medical directors, HR specialists, doctors, health and safety managers and all those responsible for the health and well-being of their workforce.
