Good workforce involvement (WFI) in safety issues leads to organisations achieving high reliability status. With good WFI, workers, including contractors are encouraged to take part in the decision making process about managing workplace health and safety.
What stops you from communicating safety issues? encourages the workforce to reflect on what might be stopping them from communicating, helping them to overcome the barriers to raising safety issues. Barriers may be personal (e.g. shyness, fear), organizational (e.g. a ‘blame culture’), or even technological (e.g. no means to communicate, such as a contractor not having access to the client’s intranet). The important thing is how management and workers join together to overcome these barriers.
This is one of eight posters, published by the EI, to support WFI initiatives. You can order the complete pack click here.
