HM 76. Guidelines for the remote monitoring of measurement equipment

The purpose of this document is to provide remote monitoring and diagnostic methods for alerting operations teams of a failure, or deterioration, in performance of equipment and systems before exceeding agreed performance levels. Failure of equipment, or degradation of performance, may result in systems being unavailable, or no longer operating in compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
This document will also provide operators with early indications of performance issues in an effort to address them in a timely manner (either by repair/replacement or an authorised dispensation). Instead of intercepting equipment when it is broken, maintenance teams are proactively aware of equipment failures and alerts, therefore equipment can be removed from service as appropriate and maintenance schedules or tasks can be adjusted accordingly, including applying for any required permits or organising helicopter travel. Predictive maintenance algorithms can also be applied to avoid equipment failures. As a result, companies can reduce operation costs and time, improve safety of workers by removing them from potentially unsafe environments as well as mitigate delays.
