In storage and transportation, pipeline and shipping infrastructure is crucial to support the large hydrogen inventory needed for a low carbon economy. Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology shows promise for efficient inter and cross-border hydrogen transport, especially for regions abundant in renewable energy.

For industrial applications, there are many activities taking place in the sector to ensure a smooth transition to hydrogen. Some of the activities are focused on provision of heat using hydrogen fuels while others are on the introduction of an entirely new chemistry in sectors where CO2 is produced as an inherent part of the process such as with cement, iron, and steel.

The power sector is also adapting as many gas turbine manufacturers are adapting their technologies to ensure they are ready for the utilisation of hydrogen either as a blend with natural gas or hydrogen only fuel.
