This landscape review of skills has been commissioned by the Energy Institute (EI) as Phase 1 of a multi-phase programme to identify the skills needs for a future hydrogen economy.

The key deliverables of the competence and skills research covers production and processing, storage and transportation, uses in industry, transport and hydrogen safety. Engineers will be needed to design, build, and operate hydrogen production, storage, and transportation facilities. Manufacturers will be needed to produce hydrogen-powered vehicles, appliances, and other equipment. Researchers will be needed to develop new and improved technologies for producing, storing, and using hydrogen. Sales and marketing professionals will be needed to promote hydrogen to businesses and consumers. Government policymakers will be needed to develop regulations and incentives to support the hydrogen economy.
