The EI supports the energy industry's goal to achieve a low carbon energy system by supporting the energy transition. A range of hydrogen projects have been developed to support this transition, asset integrity in repurposing existing natural gas infrastructure for hydrogen applications has been identified as a priority work area to be addressed.
The purpose of this report is to identify what sector-specific information is available, and in what areas knowledge gaps exist, in relation to existing materials, foreseeable operations, failure modes, inspection, maintenance, degradation, management etc. It is the EI's intention that a future phase of work (not covered in this report) will in-fill these gaps and provide a detailed guidance document to enable an organisation to conduct an MoC review. A desktop study has been carried out to identify the known asset integrity issues and evaluate what sector-specific information is available in relation to existing materials, foreseeable operations, failure modes, inspection, maintenance, degradation and management. Meetings were conducted with a number of stakeholders, listed in section 5, to identify potential data to review, and to highlight areas where no data have been published, but projects are in progress to address known knowledge gaps.
