This technical publication is concerned with achieving and maintaining functional safety (FS) for safety instrumented systems (SISs) that carry out safety instrumented functions (SIFs) designed to ensure that, together with other risk reduction measures (ORRMs), the target risk is demonstrably tolerable.
This technical publication supports end users, and its aims are to provide guidance on:
− Achieving a design for a SIS carrying out the various SIFs, taking into account ORRMs.
− Maintaining and operating an SIS, carrying out the various SIFs, such that the design parameters and the risk parameters, on which the design was based, are actively monitored, reviewed and maintained throughout the life of the plant.
