This report presents the results of a study into the ways in which fabricators of offshore structures might have a greater involvement during the design process. It is based on extensive fact finding interviews in the offshore industry primarily, but also in the construction and aerospace industries.

The main points arising from interviews are summarized, and conclusions and recommendations are presented for changes in contractual and managerial philosophy and procedures, aimed at minimizing the problems traditionally associated with the design/fabrication interface.
